When Hypershell’s founder Sun Kuan reached out to Suosi Design in 2022, the goal was ambitious: to design a lighter, cooler, and more affordable exoskeleton that felt like an extension of the human body. With experience in high-performance consumer tech, Suosi immediately saw the potential, and the collaboration began. Rather than follow the traditional design route, the two teams embraced an MVP strategy. They co-created at lightning speed, iterated on feedback, and tested in the real world.

The Omega® Architecture: Rethinking How Power Moves

Most exoskeletons on the market use two motors, one on each leg, which add weight and make the device bulky. From the beginning, we knew we wanted something different—something lighter, simpler, and more comfortable. Our answer is the Omega® architecture, where a single, powerful motor is placed on the user’s back instead of on the legs. By moving the motor to a central spot, we made the exoskeleton more balanced and less heavy on the legs. To make movement feel natural, we designed passive joints that allow the device to bend and twist with your body, not against it. The result is an exoskeleton that moves with you smoothly, feels light, and looks sleek. This new architecture also cuts down on parts and complexity, making Hypershell X easier to manufacture and more affordable for everyone.

Choosing the right materials was one of our biggest engineering challenges. We needed a frame that could support heavy loads but still feel light on your body. Instead of assembling many small parts with screws and bolts, we engineered the frame as a single piece. This “one-piece skeleton” gives Hypershell X greater strength and reduces weight by removing unnecessary connectors. The smooth, curved shape of the frame is not just about looks. It spreads the forces your body puts on the device evenly, preventing weak points and helping it last longer without adding extra weight.

We understand that mobility means not only moving while wearing Hypershell X but also carrying it when you are not. To make this easy, we designed a folding mechanism with a unique tilted rotation axis built right into the frame’s curves. This allows Hypershell X to fold down into a small, compact shape that fits easily into your backpack or car. Designing this hinge was tricky. It had to be strong enough to support your weight and withstand daily use but also flexible enough to fold smoothly. After many rounds of prototyping and testing, we perfected a folding system that is both durable and easy to use.

Fit That Works for Everyone

No two bodies are the same. To make sure Hypershell X works for as many people as possible, we built in adjustable features. Our waist and leg sections can expand or contract using an intuitive button located where your right thumb naturally rests. This makes it easy to adjust the fit without stopping or looking down. All controls, including power buttons and battery release latches, are placed where your hands naturally go. This thoughtful design means you can quickly turn Hypershell X on or off, change batteries, or switch modes, even while on the move.

Power and Intelligence in Harmony

Hypershell X’s motor is compact but powerful. It delivers one horsepower with 32 Newton-meters of torque. To put that into perspective, that is enough power to lift thousands of kilograms one meter high every minute. However, power alone is not enough. Our smart sensors and advanced algorithms read your body’s movements and intentions in real time. This means Hypershell X applies assistance exactly when you need it, making movement feel natural and effortless. We also built in a “Hyper Mode” for extra power, which you activate by pressing two buttons simultaneously. This design prevents accidental activation and keeps you safe while giving you a boost when you want it.

Batteries That Keep Up with You

Long adventures need reliable power. That is why we engineered Hypershell X with hot-swappable batteries, so you can replace them without stopping or removing the device. Our battery latch uses the natural flexibility of the battery case, so no extra tools or clips are needed. Plus, the battery’s indicator lights are placed in clear view, so you can easily check your remaining power without slowing down.
